2000

I remember New Years eve 2000. I had no money. I was at my parents home. I think the biggest thing I did that night, was light a millenium candle. I had left university six month before. I had not been able to find any work. It was one of the most miserable times of my life.
Then in 2000 I managed to get work. It was sporadic. I got work. I worked at a nice insurance company. I wore a tie, and I filled in spread sheets all day. With my earnings I went to my friends graduation. It was a surprise. I had a digital camera. It was my families digital camera. There is only picture I remember as having been taken by it. I was quite fat at the time. I would hang out at jonos and eat junk food. Playing the age of empires games, was a highlight of my life. I lead a very solitary existence. Occasional e-mails from my American friends. Oh, not Robyn. We had fallen out at the time. I used to flirt with a saf, girl who ran the internet cafe. I got her sweets on her birthday
I saw Chris and Rebecca in the summer, of 2001. I got my job in Hades. I was interviewed by my current supervisor. It took ages to get clearance for the |library. I lied on my application form- I said I was a temp in a position I was fired from . I was waiting for  news of the library job, when I was sitting at home, on that day in September 2001, when the planes hit the towers...
I went my friends Rob's wedding in Maine. My mommy lent me the money. Next month I started in Hades. It was miserable. I could not remember the name of the person I was supervising. ( I actually meant shadowing, that is Freudian slip ) I broke a shelf on my second day. No one would speak to me.
Then in 2002. We went to New York for St Patrick's day... Then to Hawaii the year after.
In December 2003. I signed onto Tickle....
Then, There was Soul Dragon, there was the fair Renoan. Dorthe, and Sara. From Sara ICQ, From ICQ. Regina, Diana, Tan, and Daria, Then Viki, Then Tanita. Then Prague in 2004. The bars full of Abi girls, and it was so cold. I chased after a pretty Ukrainian woman called the Midnight poetess

2022 - Update
Soul Dragon still occasionally in Contact
Renoan, married someone else. So did Dorthe, Sara may have lived in the bottoms of Southern Ponds
Regina married someone else

The summer before went on Tickle again, after I fell out with the Dragon. From whence came Sol, Then fotolog, Then Jo, then Myspace Then IMVU, Then Grand Dutchess Alexie, Then Hysterika . I liked her Xena picture

Hysterica seems to have been an upper class slovak.

Oh and Kate, who was so young when I met her
From Charlotte, Montpellier in 2005. After New York in 2005, and meeting up with Robyn again. I was a supervisor in 2005, for a black month. I never would have quit though if Regina had not been away for that weekend. Then came 2006. I went to Germany and I met Kas, and Meika. I was in Koln for the first time. I rode the Deuschebann, I smoked like a chimney. I didn't drink but every weekend, I would bring home 30 camel lights. It was in 2006 on ICQ, I met Mag, and from that meeting I would visit Akranes in 2008. I would visit it twice. Then to Texas in 2006. To Corpus Christi, where we spent the first night in a really rough bar. ( I say we, its me and my brother who went) We talked in an Irish bar, with a Mexican-American USAF veteran who knew the Beatles. We saw the Selina memorial.
Oh I got sick in 2006. I threw up and threw up, one day in September. ( Turned out it was Dviercutlits)
Then I gave up smoking in 2007. The patches were so expensive. We went to Koln for St Patricks. My brother was not pleased. We have video records though. I drank whiskey. I glared at some poor girl. I bought a copy of German penthouse. I kept my head down at work. We had a boss, who was very popular, and very accomdating. I got a new passport. I got a new Laptop. The BBC started to repeat Doctor Who. I have more DVDs and Books, then I could read or watch. I started to ride my bike, for a half hour every day, and then a full hour. I went to Washington DC,
I made friends with a woman called Valya Sometime before 2006. She gave me bombs to throw at Germans. She chased away people when they were mean. I helped her find a home on the Potomac.
In 2009 I went back to NC, I had returned in 2008. After a trip to chicago, It was so cold. I got so drunk, I forgot my own In 2008 I met a young lady at work. I was in Boston. I went to havard. A young ladies skirt blew up. I got made supervisor, again, and then again. I worked on my blog. I wrote AH stories. I entered and left Stargate Fandom. I watched every episode of the Wire, BSG, Alias, I started to go to the cinema again, and to swim. I bought an Iron, and hoover. I bought lamps and bed clothes. I was thrown off a flight drunk. I went to Berlin, I went to Vienna.
Its been busy

WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

What would you do if? The President of the United States called you: I would spend 5 minutes trying to answer my phone.
I never understood the dam things, and then he would ring off. I would then sulk
You won the lottery: I'd move to Hawaii
You got invited to be on a reality TV show Depends on what show. A history one, say the 1900 house maybe.
You caught a friend stealing from you: Turn on them
You witnessed a murder: Solve it publicly. One final thing..
A random stranger offered you candy: depends on what candy it is !!!
Myspace and Facebook closed: Use IMVU, Bebo, Twitter, Badduu
A genie granted you one wish: 10 years younger
You lost your favorite possession: cry cry cry. Then replace it.
This happened this time last year, when I destroyed poor Regine.
My last Laptop
You found 10 dollars on the ground: pick it up, asked anyone drop it. If not keep it
Your date throws up on you: Try and hold her head !
Someone cut off a chunk of your hair: I would bite them !
Your favorite celebrity comes to visit you? Do I really have one? I guess Charlize would count. I would get a photo taken with her, and publish it here You were stranded on an island with nothing but the ability to make one phone call: I phone for help.

Sherlock Holmes

Sherlock Holmes

I am not a Guy Ritchie fan. The Man made one good film. Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Ritchie  than remade it as Snatch.  The British press ran away with it. The man was lauded and went onto marry Madonna

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120735/

I remember the bloody TV series FFS!

I could say something about the scar, he sports. I will refrain

This film is not bad. Not bad at all.

There is some clunky speech. I wondered if it was poor direction. Or was it an actor, making a fuss?
As Jude Law's Watson in one instance, tell Holmes to get his cane out of his face.
In another Adler, announces she is finished. It comes across as too modern. In the same way a Jane Austen Heroine would be out of place saying
``Whatever'' or ``lol''

Jude Law's Watson, is wearing his hat, indoors in one scene. Which would have been repugnant in Victorian eyes

There are attempts at Steam Punk. The diabolical machine that is created at the end. The wireless taser Holmes uses in a fight

The Irish play the part of African Americans in the film. Which is accurate. One heavy speaks French. Yiddish would have been more accurate, but neverminded

Downey Jr does a good job as Holmes in my opinion. Irascible and irritating in equal measure. However his deductive skills portrayed as a kind of bullet time may annoy the purists. I did wonder about that. Holmes has never this before indeed he never needed it

They give Watson a Gambling problem. It fizzles out towards the end of the film

The dating of the film is a bit odd. The USCW is mentioned. The Home secretary is sitting in the House of Lords. The Lords are very passive when threatened with their doom. See the Irish Home rule bill in OTL for the manners of the Parliament

Holmes is familiar with Radio waves. Which would put the film about 1887. It is possible, but something of a stretch. It also puts the film at odds with Holmes/Downeys complaint about the new morality/Chambermaids. As the Gay 90s are just a few years away

The US Ambassador, the only other American in the picture. Goes out to a heroes death.

Holmes and Watson eat fish and chips. Fried in a Northern Stout! mmmm!

Rachel Macadams is hot! I do like her!

I wonder if more could have been made of this setting. Watson being a veteran of the Afghan wars, and a London full of new immigrants choking on new tech. The film sets up a sequel. I do hope we get one. The ground has been laid here.

A good film

Booze Free Christmas Party

At work we have a Christmas party every year. I am not a big fan of it. Anyway this year they managed to have an alcohol free party. Excuse was that they hadn't a lot of money. It was BS.

It was also great news for me. I have been given a stick to beat my enemies with

My trip to the Fussball continued...

Things I like which Women hate

I realized this, in Germany

Most things women like, I don't like at all...

Take a little thing. The colour pink. I don't wear it. I don't like it. I have a pink pig, that is it. I won't wear a pink shirt. It's the colour of Lord Rosebury and thus unacceptable

I like Boobs. I am sexually attracted to women. That said they spend a lot of time annoying me

Apple products. I don't like apple. I dunno why. I don't like their EULA's. Oh yes. They are deliberately more expensive then they need to. You pay for a brand. I don't like this. I am skeptical about the Kindle for the same reason.

BTW fun fact, the most pirated book is the Karma sutra. (I know its not strictly speaking pirated as its been in the public domain for centuries)

Cats. I don't hate cats per se. I guess they have their uses. On the whole I prefer Dogs. Why do I like dogs. They as useful. ..
I am totally unsentimental about animals. It is a lie I have to lead every day when I talk to women. Dad was a farm boy. Actually no, that might give you the idea, dad grew up in a big place in Iowa. He grew up on a barren hillside, battered by the Atlantic. Either an animal has its use, or it doesn't. Cats really don't. I have to say in retrospect I always secretly dug the fact that my Icelandic ex's folk killed whales. My French ex, went up in my estimation when she asked for a mink stole.

I am tired of having to listen to women whine about stray dogs, when they have been walking past homeless people. Yes I have been listening to this

Why do I have to lie about this. Why I am a bad person because of this?

Friends. I have friends. I have some good ones. I don't find it easy to make them. Friends to me, are like credit cards. I don' t hand out my credit card number on whims. If your reading this your my friend. If I work with you for a week, your not.

Music. I like music . I like dancing. I actually dance for joy. I sing. I am singing along, to Lady Gaga all the time at work. Poker face. Poker face. Mmm. I really hope those rumor's are false. ``Can't read my...'' I like bars
I loathe Nightclubs. I loathe bars with dancing. I don't know why. Nightclubs. I never liked the vibe. except oddly enough in Scotland. Where as they weren't pubs or offies. Folk were slightly more relaxed. Nightclubs were not for people like me. They wanted my money. Not me. I didn't fit the profile. I don't like loud noise and I don't like darkness. You don't like a car backfiring at night. You don't like the crowds in football matches.

There is more I can go on with...

Russell Brand. He has his moments. Works well, when someone is keeping him on a leash. ( I love you Sarah Marshall) Beyond that, he needs punching.

This life. 1990's TV series. Which is why I went to America. They said Daniella Nardini was beautiful. I was a refugee.

Rant over...

I spent a lot of time in Dusseldorf sampling the local beir. In Dusseldorf it is an Alt. A dark bitter beer. It is served in .3 litre or .2 litre glasses.

Sometimes mixed with coke of sprite. I enjoyed it

Wednesday, December 16, 2009

On Sunday, I took a trip into the centre of Dusseldorf. I noticed scores of people hanging about the Haupbanhof, in red soccer scarf's and hats. I had intended to visit a museum or some such. So I acted on impulse and I followed the football fans
I had thought the bundesliga had broken up for its winter break

I took a tram to the Espirit Arena
ttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esprit_Arena

Then I queued for a ticket. For 15 euros, I got a seat on the second tier. There was beer, and mulled wine, on offer. I tried to buy a hat. They were sold out. The Stadium offical's didn't use the roof.

Fortuna won 2-0. I remember seeing a banner. ``Your repression cannot stop are passion''. The Banner was in English. I got a pint of Pils, and Bratwurst.

I really missed my hat

I took the Tram home. A football special! Indeed I had wandered off in the wrong direction, and was afraid I would miss the train home. I drank my pills to the complete indifference of the Polizei The Police, stopped the fans, from opening a door, but chatted with them contently. I got stuck, with the away fans who were sectioned off, in the railway station

Someone let off a firework.

Cri da coeur

Its gone 4am. I still have not been able to sleep. I know why. Its kind of pathetic I have a co worker I have hated, for ages. The last time, we had interviews for supervisor post. Everyone in my department was passed over. This guy was a temp. For some reason got the position. I think its because management wanted someone to give a fixed term contract. He will be gone after christmas and thank god. I hated him. I hate him. I think he is lazy. I think he is full of it. I know he is friends with little girl. Now there quite close. She knew I hated him. So I guess I see it as a betrayal. ( I really didn't want to post about her again, but its 4.30 am. I should be asleep. Here I am )I feel frustrated she won't talk to me. She Talks to him, and indeed anyone else. I guess she is moving on with her life. Which is good. I wish it would leave me cold, but here I am. Unable to sleep. Trapped by mind. Oh, I can't wait for saturday

Alexa gifts

I received some lovely sweets from my friend The Grand Dutchess Alexya
As well as a lovely post card They brightened a grey December day. My friend Lexy-lu has been quite patient with me. I have been miserable, moody, sometimes odd with her. She has been a bright spot in this year

A Serious man

The Coen brothers tell the story of Job

The film starts with a short. 100 years ago at least. Somewhere under the Tsar. A Man returns to his wife. The man had been at the super market. Coming home, whence his cart had overturned. Someone had helped him on his way. The man knew the stranger to be a friend of his wife. So he invited him to his home. Where his wife recognizes him. Their guest had died of typhus three years ago. The wife acts. The film is a period piece. The Doctor offers his patients a cigarette. There are thick plastic telephones. The son listens to a portable transistor radio. Its a look at Jewish Americana. The Yellow school bus going to Hebrew school. One of the characters brings a bottle of wine, to Larry and notes that it is not their normal fare, ( Which had a Hebrew name) Their are mixers mentioned at the Rabbi Hillei house
Our protagonist Larry is a physics Teacher. Schrondegingers cat is mentioned. indeed  is mentioned by Larry to his class. The cat like Job and our friend Larry is at the mercy of forces it does not understand. There is a subplot, with a Korean student trying to get the physics teacher to take a bribe. It provides some of the film funniest moments. The Korean student does not understand the math's, of physics but gets the idea about the cat.
The music of Grace Slick graces this film. Good choice boys
A mild man mannered man sees his world break down. His wife wants to leave him for another man. His brother lives with them, and has no job and a terrible cyst that needs draining. There is a car accident. His stoner son joins a record club.
There are little moments of triumph for our hero. He sees a naked neighbor. His son, does complete his bar mitzvah, despite being stoned. The relationship with the brother is troubling. Is the brother mentally handicapped? Has the brother  had a nervous breakdown? To spoil  a plot point the brother is arrested for sodomy in the North Dakota ( A bar).
Which may mean several things in American parlance

The film ends on an ambiguous note. I enjoyed it. I think the story of Job is always worth retelling. It was interesting to see the work a day world of American Judaism. To see a world where Sheoul rather than hell is feared.

I do like that Woman

Oscar winning actress Charlize Theron had some fun at FIFA's expense during a trial run for Friday's World Cup draw when she 'drew' Ireland.
The South African (pictured), whose long-term boyfriend is Irish actor Stuart Townsend, made the tongue-in-cheek gesture just one day after FIFA rejected Ireland's appeal to be added to the competition as a 33rd team. The Irish made the request after France's Thierry Henry was clearly seen handling the ball before setting up William Gallas for the winning goal in the play-off between the two sides. Theron will co-host Friday's draw with FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke, and Valcke confirmed that Theron pulled Ireland instead of France out of the bowl during rehearsal.
"Yes, she did, but it was only a joke," he said.
The 90-minute show will be televised live to an estimated global audience of more than 200 million people in 200 countries. She will help place the 32 finalists into eight groups of four teams for the tournament which runs from June 11 to July 11. The show will include an African musical spectacular, including gospel and jazz. A host of sporting celebrities will also take part in the draw including Ethiopia's Olympic champion runner Haile Gebrselassie, England midfielder David Beckham, South Africa footballer Matthew Booth and cricketer Makhaya Ntini, and the host country's rugby World Cup captain John Smit. South African president Jacob Zuma will be in the audience along with Nobel Peace prize winners FW de Klerk and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Be still my heart

Going Rogue

Most of what I write is political.
I generally keep it off here.
When Governor Palin came on the scene in 2008. I found her interesting. She reminds me of my mother. She has had a large brood one of her children is handicapped. As the case is with my family.
Oh and she was married to a fisherman. This is what my family did traditionally. There is still a cousin of mine working on the boats I believe. I watched her at the debate with Joe Biden, and I thought she reminded me of my friend Meike She is Bossy. I like that So I picked up the book at the Airport. It took my mind off the turbulence below I read it from cover to cover, flying back from Washington DC. ( An irony there perhaps) It took me a while to get used the prose. Ms. Palin is no great writer. Once she settled in, it was interesting enough biography. An account of a childhood in Alaska. A part of the world, I know very little about. Stories of cleaning fish and hunting. The beginnings of her religious life. One big difference between Ms Palin, and Mom. Is that Ms Palin's mother who was a practicing catholic, drifted into another Church. This is not something that would have happened back home.  talks Palin about life with a disabled son. ( I am editing this in 2021, I now have a disabled child)
Sarah found it helpful to write a letter to her son. She made the point of raising the profile of learning difficulties while on campaign. For which I commend her.
The book is a passionate defence of hunting and fishing. She makes the old quip about God making animals out of meat She quotes a a Native American Elder-Who opined that common sense is an endangered species. Its a country woman's amazement and distaste of townies. As I have mentioned the book gives a glimpse into Native American life. Her husband describes his wife as running for Boss Alaska  One interesting fact is that Ms. Palin's parents worked at Fresh kills, keeping predators and pests away from the remains of the Twin towers. It was an active life. Ms. Palin talks about the benefits she received from Title IX. It allowed her to be a basketball player. Title IX http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Title_IX

Palin quotes Thatcher the last prominent Mother in Politics. If you exclude Indira Gandhi She describes her gawky childhood. How she ran for a beauty queen, which was at odds with her sheltered gawky teenage years. She mentioned that her Husband told his buddies she never kissed anyone, and one still feels the indignation She mentions her sympathy for Hilary Clinton-( I wonder if she still feels the same way in 2021) She notes the easy ride Obama had. Which is now ending. The Media are beginning to fall out of love with the Man. There is mentions of the Idarod. The Alaska aces.
Palin answers some of her critics. There is her view of the troopergate affair.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troopergate_(Bill_Clinton)

Mrs Palin  mentions her struggle against Big Oil. She writes about having to accept giving Gay couples benefits. If she runs for President again, this question will come up. Sooner or later it is going to be addressed. Eire is putting through a civil partnership bill today. A President Palin may have to sign the bill. I believe she has prepared her ground on this matter. She will basically stand aloof, and pray its defeated in the senate. If not she will sign with gritted teeth, but she will sign.

( The matter is moot-Gay Marriage is now universal in the West) 2021

The book takes off with her discussion of her the election campaign that brought her into the spotlight. The 2008 election. Politics has been described as show business for the ugly. Well if its not too oedipal Governor Palin is not an ugly woman. However she is suddenly thrust into the spotlight. She was not a national figure. She was able to buy a pregnancy testing kit in Louisiana when she was governor. After she was selected as a running mate. The first thing she had to do was confiscate her children's mobile. Palin states she let down John McCain after the Couric interview. It along with the Tina Fey skits defined her in many minds. Not since David Steel, being portrayed as in David's Owens pocket. The Couric interview is jarring when you consider how she talks about seeing off Oil company execs, who were normally dealing with Third world warlords. It also jars with her account of working in local media. She was a beauty queen, and a radio host. She did not know the media manipulate things.
If I had a third hand, I would note that Vince Cable a very experienced British politician, spent the night fumbling over a question on tax, asked by a BBC audience ``I can see Russia from my house'' Tina Fey. (Ms Palin never said the words) I thought there was a trick missed here.
I was surprised Ms Palin did not offer a more detailed rebuttal of her duties as Governor. As Governor of Alaska she does come into contact with Russians, and Canadians. Russian fishing boats, and the occasional tourist.  Indeed Alaska is a major Airline route Where I expected: This happened. I did this. I got on the phone, and I made Washington give us more money for fisheries protection. Or I helped lobby for more Coast Guard units. Or, I expected something like this: When I dealt with the Canadian officials over this. I got them to do this. They wanted to do this. I talked them round. This is me and such a Canadian official. We found this common ground.
There was no mention of Israel or Cuba. No blatant attempts to win lobbies there. There was no attempt to show what she did as a border Governor as opposed to stating what she did. I found it confusing. After stating the importance of hunting and fishing to Alaskans. She mentions the Exxon Valdez. Ms. Palin did not seem to want to demonstrate what the extra pressures of living above the 48 states Ms. Palin mentions she does not believe in evolution on a human level. How this will effect a Palin administration is quite a serious question. If one doubts evolution on a human level. How does this effect federal funding for everything from Archaeology, to Biomedical research. The Bush administration was proved right on stem cell research. Turned out, there more ways to harvest stem cells, then from embryonic tissue. More and more we need scientific literacy from our leaders. If for no other reason then the depoliticization of Science. It is a curious book, about a curious woman. There are many things left unsaid. It is the story of an outsiders rise to a place where the eyes of the entire world were on her. From the shores of Alaska, to a Goldfish bowl.
Sarah's life  similar to President Obama's life. Both are outsiders. Unlike their running mates. This was part an apologia, something of a manifesto and a reminder that politics and thus history is made by individuals.

Success and failure the difference between the two may be an off day

I ate too much today

I nibbled on bounty bars, and snickers bars, from a pack of mini celebrations. I helped myself to the galaxy truffle The coffee machine was not working so I had a Pepsi Then one of my co workers is leaving. I had wotsits. I love wotsits. Oh and shrimp, and bombay mix I had two rounds of this Then pizza and rings... I am bloated. My own fault though
