Batman V Superman

It is not a bad film, its not great. Like it's predecessor, Man of Steel, I should have liked Batman and Superman, Dawn of Justice a lot more. The problems I argue are these

The film tries to do too much. We have Batman fight Superman, and then Superman, Batman and Wonder woman fight Doomsday. Doomsday who killed Superman. The last half hour seems tacked on. DC want to compete with the Avengers.

Superman, is an Alien who may set  himself up as a God. Yet Diana who was a Goddess gets a pass. Diana who felt free to intervene in human history in WW1

Afleck is not bad. Though he looks odd, dressed as Batman

Jeremy Irons is a professional

The film takes shots at the declining power of the printed press. A cynical liberal editor bemoaning the death of the Kennedy's and King. The film does not treat Authors silicon valley Billionaire as the same way. The candy, the t shirts, the shoes are all affectations boys

Surely Luthor and Batman/Wayne are the same character, just with different scruples here?

Like  Days future past, I felt myself agreeing with the antagonist

Fresh Meat

I am waiting for a download at work. I should have gone home, but I do not have the money
Anyway. I ignored this  program when I was living over the hills and across the sea. There was something about the promotional video, that irked me. I should have listened to that Kiwi

Oh my god, I was wrong. The opening scene, when Vod, walks into the student house and sees Howard stark bollock naked, took me back to my days in university. No not the nudity-though the series flirts a bit with that. We see a flash of boobs for example. I wonder if someone had an eye on the Teens & Tits market. There are backsides and possibly testicles on display

Vod, and it seems to have been a breakout role for Zawe Aston annoyed me at first. I could not fathom if her accent was fake or not. I wondered if this was a deliberate act by the actress One meets ``Mockneys'' a plenty in university. I also found her behavior annoying. Now I realize that is intentional.

Howard brought me back to the heady days of the late 90s. I was living in Glasgow, surrounded by hard drinking ,dressing gown, wearing, bearded Scots. Though Howard is something of a recluse in the earlier series. He grows though

Interestingly note how few scenes there are between Howard and Oregon. It is my contention, that Oregon is not supposed to be a sympathetic character, and she grows the least in the show.
Yes she has a friendship with Vod, but she has precious through memorable scenes with the rest of the cast. Indeed her and Vod complement each other, they are both seeking attention. Vod is from a neglected background. Oregon is perhaps simply rather concieted. Vod was the smart girl who never believed in herself. Oregon is the hardworking girl, but was never as smart as she believed.
The Welsh dental student calls her on it in fact `` You like to read''

Like all British sitcoms Class is a supporting actor.

J.P played by Jack whitehall steals the show. Conventional wisdom, is that its Vod. Certainly Aston is the better actor. Indeed the plastic head of Russel Brand is a better actor. J.P always gets the best lines, even though he is  Bertie Wooster with gay jokes.

Fresh Meat  clearly set at a specific point in time. Unlike the Inbetweeners which could be in theory  anytime from the mid 1990s to now. We see a student protest, which mentions kettling. Do they still do that?

Kingley that guy from the Inbetweeners, and the Welsh girl make up the rest of the cast. They fall into a romance. As a relationship its crazy and cosy, and ultimately doomed. There is an interesting plot arc of the Welsh Girl destroying her young life by getting drunk and messing up in a practical class

The series gets the loneliness of university. The Is that it? feeling. The uncertainty-everyone feels on day one. The drunken rutting on squeaky beds.  The long days of summer when the world seems young and unlimited. The cramming. The booze, The drugs. The terrible food. The fear.-The students are attacked by muggers.

Oh I was home, for a moment, I was somewhere behind the Botanic Crescent sitting on the grass watching the sun go down

Agent Carter

I did see the Captain America movie. I think I watched it in passing on a plane. I  remembered the villains rather then the heroes. I have been trying to watch Daredevil on Netflix. I am not really getting into it. As Jessica Jones is perhaps a bit too adult for my house hold, I decided to give Agent Carter a try

Actually its quite good. Alias meets Madmen.

One the dialogue. I must congratulate Ms Haley, anyone who can advise someone to ``go tell it to the marines''  and sell it, is a fine actress. This is what I like about the series, the past is clearly  shown as a foreign country. People may watch movies, eat in cafes and drive cars to work. Actresses are still working as waitresses looking for that break.  Its a different world. Our heroine resides at a women's only hotel, A minor plot point shows a young lady being evicted from her digs, because she was caught with a man after hours,

The shroud of Captain America, lies heavy on the show. We meet up with Captain America's unit. The Howling commando's. The Mcguffin, in one episode  is revealed to be a phial of Steve Rodgers blood. Peggy is morning her lost love, Though it does not detract from the story. I have not seen the winter soldier and did not play close attention  to the movie

The period touches are nice. Though the G-men are perhaps a little too integrated Carters boss, Dooley is a mick out of the old OSS. The wounded agent Sousa is a greaser. There is a  Bohunk -Polack who never gets his name pronounced correctly, and the great white hope of the agency is a WASP. Across the chessboard there are the Reds, infiltrating the agency with psychology and sleeper agents. A British Butler who listens to Jack Benny. Its a different world!

Its good, it will like the best sf make people curious
