The Big Lebowski

Rather like Boogie Nights Which I watched the day before this  I know now that I should have watched this earlier. A lot earlier in fact I have seen the memes, I even remember the posters

I can remember this being released in the cinema. It would have been in the last few months of my time in UNC I always liked the Coen Brothers films.

I really enjoyed this film I must say. I think I watched this without glancing at my phone

The Big L  is a period piece. Alas like Boogie Nights the presence of Phillip Seymour Hoffman confirms this fact. We are transported back to the the early 1990s- George Bush is president, and the talk is about will Kuwait be another Vietnam. Interestingly there is no notion of the 1990s recession. Which is also absent from Frasier

My dad had a similar cardigan to the Dude. There are references to Saddam Hussein and people can still smoke everywhere. I also think MGD bottles are a sign of things gone by but that might not be true elsewhere

It reminded me of Magnum P.I actually, a guy who is a bit of a bum- oh and a Vietnam War veteran investigate a case- here there are two different people rather then one, but still

It is a bit more risqué than Magnum

The Dude also plays hunches- and is a bit behind on his rent. Rather like a certain Thomas Magnum

I wanted  to try a White Russian too

Julianne Moore does a great English or Transatlantic accent. I don't think she gets enough credit for it

I understood what Moore was doing afterward she got to know ( in the Biblical sense) the Dude

Like Boogie Nights- the world of adult entertainment makes it's presence known here It is a sanitized version though. Though I note they slip the Dude a mickey

There are non Nazi German villains - nihilists. Who have rather dodgy accents- on and the Dude getting beaten up by a local sheriff is something that video cameras and cellphones would not allow. This is still a world of landlines and newspapers. Bum being an insult and In, and Out Burger being new

Like the Duke it may be old, it may have been forgotten like the Seattle 7 but it is a classic
