The Final Countdown
Whilst watching this, film. A 1980, time slip story. In the manner of a Conneticut Yankee, at King Arthurs court, or Life on Mars, whose return I await eagerly. I wondered what would have happened, if George Lucas, had a car crash. This film instead, had been given a bigger budget, and a re write. Ending with Tomcats, flying off to engage Zeros
The film is not bad, its got some decent acting. Kirk Douglas, and a very young looking Martin Sheen. It features, Lloyd from Troma, starring in his only Hollywood role.
So, the USN Nimitz is sent back in time, through a storm, as we remember from island in the sea of time, and explored in weapons of choice. Back to 1941,
To be honest I feel the film is a bit of a tease. In the end the storm turns up again, and nothing happens. Yes crew men die, yes a Japanese patrol is lost, but so what.
For a BSG fan, its a good portrayal of life on a Aircraft carrier. How it really is, interesting to see the use of TV on the ship. The ships Captain behind a podium.
Rumours, spreading of a third world war. The Chef listening to the officers speak. The Sailor chased out of the briefing room. After overhearing news of Barbarossa. Putting 2 and 2 together. Russians and Germans fighting, and making 5, or should it have been 3.
I think the Senator, would have been more suprised, with an interracial crew. This Ships XO is black.
All very good, all very professional, but, is this the best we can do?
