Death in Venice

I did not enjoy this film. I disliked the subject, and the lead. I felt the lead character was a passive man, who lets the world happen to him

It does look great, Pre World War 1 Venice is a land of bright purple dresses, arsenic laden greens Myriad languages, and minstrels. The mustaches and beach huts. As a period piece it is superb

It does feel uneasy,  The interactions between two people and Bogarde we do get a sense of dread, or being a stranger in an unfamiliar place

Bogarde carries the weight of this film, internally and . I cannot judge this against his work because I am not quite familiar with it.
