Trainspotting.
Its been a while since I sat down and watched this film.
Re-watching it now, 20 years and half the world away. I want to give a more balanced judgement, is it a classic? Mm-mm I am honestly not sure. What I notice now is actually how dislikeable everyone is, with the exception of Spud, and the guy who played Vorenus (Kevin Mckidd)
I can understand why teenagers liked the movie, its rebellious, it tells a truth people take heroin because of the kick. Its full of Anti heroes. Begbie, Sic boy, and Renton. There is a dig at Thatcher, there are digs at consumerism. Even bloody Keith Allen
I was surprised by the nude scenes.
By the way, I was in the VolcanoThe Nightclub in the film- the line about the successful segregating themselves from the unsuccessful in mating was quite cutting
The shit scenes, lose their shock effect after we have seen the scatological triumph which is Bombay Millionaire. The violence is well done. Not Carlyle throwing punches but the punters gasping and begging.

Interestingly the scene from the Edinburgh festival was misunderstood by some audiences. It was claimed they beat him for being a Yank...

I was actually in there, it was up the road from my halls of residence.)
So, did I enjoy it, yes, I enjoyed the nostalgia, the energy of the original is still there!
The deft character touches. With Gods, help I will overcome the terrible addiction. When Spud Murphy's mother is turned away in the bar-This may have sectarian overtones.
The horror of a dead child, and the fear of an Aids test do not compare from this distance.

.Granted with the dead baby Renton is an onlooker, and we see a change in Sick boys character. From then on Sic boy is as amoral as Begbie
Yet the death of McKidd does not seem to have the punch it should. He is the innocent sacrificed to reefer sorry needle madness We do not see the real fear AIDS was met within the early eighties
The hit wears off over time

The Defenders
Good but not great
Sigourney Weaver stars as the big bad. They series pulls the same trick as Luke Cage by having Electra kill off Ms Weaver. Alright but I did not find Electra that interesting- she is basically mute until the penultimate episode . There she gives the ``We are very much alike speech'' to Danny Rand
Danny Rand is better here than in Iron Fist, and having Luke Cage as a father figure works.
I liked how they paired of Luke with Danny, and Jessica with Matt. I also liked how they have Danny Rand just pay the Chinese restaurant.
Kudos on having Daredevil say he can hear neon
I was really upset by the fact that there was no Punisher cameo. I thought they were teasing that
It was good to see Jessica Jones, and Matt Murdoch, and Luke Cage back together. I remain in love with Rosario Dawson. Foggy is cool, and Trish is lovely.
The blonde from Daredevil lets things down. She comes across as a scold
I like the Japanese guy. As well as Madam Woo. The Hispanic/Araby guy with the British accent who is the enemy of Jennifer from iron fist, less so much
Stick is good
Its a solid B plus. Its good but not great, as some posters have pointed out, the music choices are weird. I think the hand fizzle out. I was expecting a punisher moment. I liked it nevertheless

The Guardians of the Galaxy 2
Okay, the film was alright. It is two hours long, there are some nice character moments. It is quite forgettable really.
What I liked...
The things to come/Metropolis style look of the Sovereign planet
Kurt Russell, I want a young Kurt Russell to play me, in a film about my life. I don't look like Kurt Russell but I want people to think I did. I am a big fan of Snake Pliskken
The Ego-Star lord story is a nice spin of the Siren's myth
Nebula, telling Gamora that she wanted a sister, was good. I am not too keen on Karen Gillian's Merican accent though
Drax-`` I have huge turds!''
Michael Rooker playing a hero! Finally!
The Alaskan mining camp world, with the robot sexbots. The sexbots being shown as painfully coldly robotic
The pirates being spaced.( Blown out of the airlock If you have not seen Babylon 5)
The Michael Hasselhoff cameo was amusing , pretty sure that was ripped from the original footage.
Surprised to see Tango and Cash in the same film
The Zune gag (Zune was the MS challenge to the Ipod. Last mentioned in Family Guy back in the Oughts. )
Bo
Daddy was thinking about you today. You are so big! I hope you are feeling better. Please keep warm, and eat a lot
