My newsletter piece

 

They asked me to do a bit for our departments newsletter.

Here it is

Every year. I try to go away for St Patricks day. I spent the dark months of February and January working amongst the shelves and stepladders of Basement three. So when March comes, I grab whatever holiday time I have to carry over. Add it to my allowance, due to the new year, and catch a flight from Heathrow

For five years I went to New York. Though of late, I have decided to venture further afield. Last year I went to Chicago. The home of the Cubs, and Bears, and President Barak Obama.(I knew him, when he was just a Senator) This year I went to Boston.

What a charming city it is. It lacks the Imperiousness of New York. Its more centred, and focused then Chicago. Despite its age. Boston was founded in the 1630s. Which makes its old by American standards Boston a very youthful city. 1/3 of the population is a student. So I am told. I guess I could look it up. Information is there, probably in the Y-C's.

South Boston, is the where the St Patricks day festivities are celebrated. In effect the city of Boston, took about 5 days off for the holiday.  (Friday to the following Wednesday. Surely we at the BL, can do better? Next year six days)

As the Parade is situated in a neighbourhood. Where people live and work. Unlike say in New York, where the marchers are simply walking through the tourist trail of 5th ave There are some restrictions and regulations. No portaloo's are provided. The bars are 20 dollars cover to get into, and they close everything at 8pm. The queues at the liquor stores were several Men, and women and dogs, and one guy with a parrot deep

In our money, its rather like comparing the Notting Hill Carnival, with the Lord Mayor's Parade. There are some interesting choices of Marchers and Floats. The local unions are strongly represented. Something that will gladden the hearts of our Union members.

It was a very enjoyable day out. I recommend it to anyone. Now did I hear there was a Parade, in Waikiki?

You go to college and its waiting around all day for three hours of lectures, eating instant noodles, and maybe watching Star trek, or the Simpsons  and going to bed. Malchera in High school

Will from the in-betweeners, with bad skin, look at the area arround my left eye. I have just had a bout of conjuctiveitis. That and my half smile, to conceal my cracked incisor and dirty teeth... I don't know why I actually possess this picture. School Photographs, now there is racket. They take you out of class, and take your picture, and charge you for the picture. Anyway, my mother never paid for the school photographer. She had 4 children in the same school,  and paying for 4 photographs, would not have been cheap. I do remember the day though. Before me, the busty Kelly Panei, had gone first. The photographer had made a crack about beauty and the beast, so I knocked over his stand on the way out... But for years after, this was my mental image of myself...
