Years and Years

I have been explaining to my sister and my mother that this series, which they recommended is basically Dr Who without the Doctor. It is, in fact, the plot of the classic New series Doctor Who episode Turn left, and the concentration camp plot from Torchwood Miracle day

We also get to be told a migration story.

You even have a lot of the same dialogue repeated with Jaqueline King talking about bees being replaced by Anne Reid talking about Butterflies.

The Doctor is split between three characters

Edith=The activist
Gran The Voice of wisdom. There is a particular speech about how the world went to hell when we all started
Bethany- The tech

I loathed Bethany. Bethany is everything I resent about young women. Indulged to the point of stupidity He West Indian mother would in real life have pulled the filter off her face. The words that really get me angry please don't get mad. If you noticed Bethany did not grow. Her trans human plot is something they wrote her out of.

Now, there is an interesting Cyberman story there with Bethany

I thought Russell missed some tricks.
One, it would have been interesting to have the police force the doors down when the bank crashed
Two, For a moment the Chinese Island that was nuked had been suggested to have been faked. This did actually make more sense. China did not go to war. The UK, was not talking to Europe or the US. They were isolated. Maybe nothing happened. That is why Edith had not died.
Three. My mother though Viktor had pushed his lover off the dingy. Or had abandoned him. This would have changed things. If Viktor had not been seen as a sympathetic character Did he still deserve to die?
Edith threatening her sister's new boyfriend was off tonally.
Gran getting new eyes offered a storyline where Granma can regrow her organs and get better. When she decides not to get old and decline but to spend her money on herself

Yawn Vivienne rook, Berlasconi meets Nigel Farage.
