The Fall Guy ( 2024)

I did enjoy this. I meant to see it in the cinema. I finally did get around to watching it

I have thought that the 1980s Lee Majors vehicle which I have been re-watching for a while deserved a reboot. If for no reason I have much more regard for practical effects - The FallGuy 24 starts with a reworking of the montage shown at the beginning of each episode

The stunts feel real. The FallGuy being set about a film set is a nice touch. It pokes fun at the huge Marvel style summer blockbusters - We see some of the workaday problems of movie making. The tide is out. The Americans need left hand cars. A camera is broken during a stunt- which causes problems for a planned clip to shown at Comic-con.

Also the lack of privacy on the set. 100s of people know what is going on it your life. The people copying a style of clothes of a T shirt.

Firstly the plot about Colt being a bounty hunter has been dropped. In part I imagine that is due to the change in scene from LA, to Australia. Also bail being a slice of political hot potato perhaps it is best we passed on that particular dish

That said The Fall Guy (TV) acknowledged the peaks and troughs of working in show business. Our Colt here works for big budget movies. Indeed he is the stunt man for a particular stunt man

Deep fakes are nodded too

This is a pity because the Fall Guy often did deal with the fact that the US Justice system had problems- as well as acknowledge the fact that perhaps having a man without a badge or a uniform force you onto a plane or a train under colour of law is problematic

The plot of the film is driven by a love story between Colt ( Gosling ) and Jody (Blunt) They do have good chemistry. Colt was injured in a stunt- and is missing out on Blunt's big break

The film catches the spirit of colt's humor. It is a pity they wrote Body out of the film. This is interesting as Colt ( Gosling is playing a 30 something ) so perhaps Gosling is too young to be an adult mentor

Body as I have noted before is a stereotypical millennial before there were millennials. Body went to 100s of American universities and never quite graduated

There are quite a few good jokes. The confusion between movie props and guns and swords. The Alien who interjects in Colt and Blunts conversation

I liked it. I wonder if there will be a sequel. Doesn't need to be but I might genuinely see one if there is
