The Passion of the Christ
The Passion, is one of the most immersive and powerful films I have seen. This was despite watching via the ITV streaming service and having the film stopped for adverts for online betting
I was struck by how close Latin feels like Spanish.
The difference between the politeness and poise of the Roman officers and then the physical ugliness and coarseness and violence of the legionaries was clear. I think instructive for anyone studying Ancient Rome
The film- felt like watching the past. The aesthetic of Herod's court was drawn from memories of Pharoahs.
I like the scene where Jim'Cs Jesus placed all his weight on a table to test it. That felt real I have seen a carpenter do that
The horror of crucifixion was shown on screen without flinching. Several times I fear Jesus will be killed outright by Roman cruelties
Mary is elevated in this film- she follows the crucifixion and even has the devil mock her
The supernatural scenes the torment of Judas, are a horror
Amen
