I can see why the ``Powers That Be'' where scared of this film.
There is a 10 minute scene of teenagers just dismissing and insulting their elders. It is not a clergyman or a Headmaster. It is a musican and a manager. There is a scene where a debutante threatens her principal- while dancing at the prom. She tells the teacher, she will sour her father on leaving a library as a gift to the school. The film is a lot more sexualised than I thought. There is a scene with the female lead in her bathing suit and it comments on this. You also you could argue that the main contest of this film is between the romantic lead, and a Girl Boss music excecutive. Who had left the manager at the altar
It makes the point that dancing is an important to enjoying Rock and Roll, as listening. This is really a series of music videos. The bands come one, do there bit. There is some rock and roll dancing. The plot moves on.
The Platters, really knock it out of the park. I didn't know they were in this, and Only you-hits like Kennedy is running for the White House
Both Haley and the Platters look middle aged. The Film stresses their humble orgins-they were farmers who gigged in the evening, sometimes for payment in kind
The hero of the story, marries the dancing girl he discovered. Quite an age gap !
I am pleased I saw it. I understand why it was a big deal. Cinema birthed the radio star?
