Casino Royale 1 of 2
As I was talking about another franchise the other day. I thought it would be appropriate to view another modern classic
My father is a big James Bond fan. He had actually read the books. I remember a weathered copy of Moonraker, lying around the teenage work station. ( A piece of furniture, that my parents bought, years ago Before most of siblings were teenagers)
I remember, the thrill of James Bond movies. The nudity. Actually very little. Mostly innuendo, and a flash of bra. I remember eating raisin toffees during the Man with the Golden gun. My father pointing out plot points. Such as the fact that the rats were not poisoned by the gas in Golden eye.
My first college roommate was a huge Bond fan. Sean Connery used to look down on me. Robyn preferred Rodger Moore. I even bought the spy who loved me on VHS. VHS NICAM
I watched Die another day on a plane. Crossing the Atlantic.
Anyhow the film, had been sitting on my shelf for a while. I had wanted to see Casino Royale before I saw. Quantum of Solace. I didn’t get round to watching Casino Royale, so I missed out on seeing Quantum of Solace. So I will look to pick that up, somewhere someplace.
Casino Royale opens in black and white film. We are told we are in Prague. Which is in the Czech Republic. Right because I thought we might be in Prague Norway. I digress.
Bond confronts a traitor. In flash back, we see Bond brutally killing a man in a men’s room. Bond is dismissed at first as he is not a OO Agent. He has not killed anyone. His counterpart notices that Bond is still disturbed from the fight. He is still feeling it. He points out, that his second kill, will be easier. ..
Bond acts swiftly and fatally
The action then shifts to Africa. Where the villian of the piece. La Chiffre is introduced. He is a banker for the worlds terrorists. The viewer is then taken to the SE. To Madagascar. Where Bond and an acomplice is staking out a bombmaker. Who is watching a Mongoose fight a Cobra. The accomplice, botches things. He gives himself away crudely and then chases the Bomb Maker, across a building site. Bond follows
The stunt is an amazing display of :

Across Cranes, across rooftops. Even bond, catch match the skill of his quarry. He has to cheat and use a lift.
Bond however tracks his man, into an African embassy. where he after a stunt. Kills him. On camera. This is dispersed by the worlds Media. Bringing him to the attention of M.
Bond is something of a loose Cannon, he breaks into M’s flat. He hacks into her personal files. Making Bond something of a Computer wizz one assumes.
( M’s adviser is Brutus from Rome. I was trying to place him for a while)

M, rages at Bond, for his lack of vision. What was the point of killing 1 bomb maker and on Camera, instead of draining him for information. With the Cold war gone. There is always the need for information. Bond is told to cool his heels.
Bond goes to the Bahamas.
