``They intend to do what is called a "destructive" shutdown on three of the other reactors; reactor vessel 3 is going to blow before they can get equipment in place.  This destructive shutdown is meant to remove fuel rods and break them up into subcritical masses, rather than try to preserve them as potential fuel elements for later use, or try to preserve the reactor for later repair.  They are turning away volunteers for the job if the volunteers are under the age of 50, or have small children as dependents, because of the near certainty that any volunteers are going to become cancer statistics doing the work.  My source says that the number of senior engineers who've asked to be considered where he works is mind-blowing.’’
