Mercy 81 residents...

Look at this its a load of stones and lumps of wood. Amy has noticed a boundary that surrounds the town of Mercy. The Doctor and his Companions, are outside a Wild West town. Wooden houses, a saloon, a bank, the brush of the American west surrounding them.
What is it ?
The Doctor investigates the boundary with his sonic screwdriver

The Doctor Rory and Amy walk into town,  up the main street, towards the bank. The bank has a clock  on its roof. As Team TARDIS go they are observed by sullen towns folk. They stop by a hissing street lamp,

( Which is actually, quite intelligent, it is just possible someone was playing around with electricity here) The Doctor replies that Rory had said similar when he had left his phone charger in Henry the eight's on sweet Anachronistic electricty.. agressive stares... keep out signs, has someone been peaking at my christmas list the  Doctor asks?

The towns people carry off the doctor, and amy and rory to the edge of town, they bundle them out

Woa.. the Doctor is thrown out of town, literally. The Doctor hurt his back in the fall, and stands up groaning. The Doctor turns about to face the town, and towns people and is met with a brace of pistols.

He's coming, Oh god he's coming, the black man in the black suit observes
Preacher say something. The young cowboy says in response
The preacher is the black man we saw earlier, in the Saloon. He begins to recite the The lords prayer, Hallowed be thy name
The Doctor has his hands up, facing the crowd.
The Doctor tries to run back into town, as something is coming for him, appearing closer with each teleport.

A gunshot, disturbs the crowd
You Bow tie, get back across that line, now.. A man with a moustache open his coat, and reveals his sheriffs star.. Now.. the  lawman commands
The Cyborg stares at the Doctor through his enhanced machine eye and teleports out.

Issace he said he was a Doctor An alien doctor, the young cowboy tells the sheriff. As the towns people relax and lower their pistols
That a reason to hand him to his death.. counters Issac
But Issac it could be him, the cowboy insists
You know it ain't is the Sherrifs rebuttal, who turns to walk back into the town of Mercy

Ma'am.. The sherrifs nods, at Amy. Who nods back. The Timelord steps back into town.There is some mutterings about this

what was that outside.. the Doctor asks, the Sherrif, having followed him into the town Jail.

The Gunslinger

Showed up three weeks back, explains Sherrif Isassc, who goes on to recount how the boundary was discovered.  The town woke up one morning and  There it was

No supply wagons, no reinforcements, pretty soon the whole town is going to starve to death.
But he let us in... Rory interjects
The sherrifs counters with the observation that the Doctor, Rory and Amy are not carrying any weapons. So they are just three extra mouths to feed

What happens if someone crosses the line...

The sherrif tosses the Doctor, his stetson, it has a hole straight through

Well he wasn't a very good shot than, the Doctor muses placing his finger through the hole...

Amy smiles at the sherrif, we were aiming for mexico, the Doctor was taking the ponds to the Day of the dead festival. Issac informs, the Ponds that Mexico, is 200 miles due south.
The light flickers.. it catches the Timelord's eye.
Two Alien, Doctors
The Doctor recounts, that the sherrif knew that the timelord was not the right alien doctor.
Resident 81, so beloved by the townsfolk he warranted an alteration to the sign. The Doctor guesses that the Alien, is the person who rigged up these electrics.. and than guesses the other Alien is in the jail.. because if someone wanted to throw me to my death, this is exactly where I want to be

Its alright Issac....The time for subterfuge has past..From one of the cells, a figure arises from its bunk,

Good after noon, my name is Khaler Jex, I'm the Doctor. A small man ( Pete Sutcliffe from Gavin and Stacey.. the Radio annoucer from the King speech) The Doctor smiles, meanwhile the cyborg looks on..
The Khaler I love the Khaler.. The Doctor notes the Khaler could build a spaceship out of tuppenware and moss. The Doctor is shaking hands manically. The Khaler look human, but for a tattoo on their faces.
My craft crashed about mile or so out of town..Jex responding to Amy's question about how he got here..He would have died if Issac and the others had not pulled him from the wreckage.
Jex was a surgeon on his world, and so it seemed logical.   opportunity to repay my debt to them
Listen to him, the Sherriff says abashed

Two years after he arrived.. had an outbreak of cholera Jex begins Thanks to the Doc here not a single person died
A minor infection we found a treatment for centuries ago. The sherrif points out the electrics, which embarrasses Jex a touch. The other Alien Doctor explains, using his ship as a generator he was able to rig up a rudimentary system of heating and light

Jex says to Issac.. That they have discussed this. Issac retorts the people who lives you saved are now talking and thinking about handing you over. Again Jex tries to apologise and emphasise with the towns people

War only ended five years back, that old violence is still under the surface. Issac tells the Doctor and his companions We give up Doc Jex, and than we're handing the keys of the town over to chaos

Did you try to repair your craft? The Doctor changes the subject and the tone surely someone with your skills?

The Doctor stands up says we will evacuate the town, he will bring the Tardis, to Mercy. The Tardis is just over the hill. (Which means Rory and Amy walked a fair bit in heat, and dust with rattlesnakes and such about)Everyone can get in the Tardis, and then Roberts your uncle

Amy asks is that it, no negotiations..

As the Doctor opens the door, to leave. The sherrif tells him, he still have to get past the gunslinger. The Doctor tells him, he will With a little slight of hand

Rory and the sherrif are running outside of town, they have tattoos on their faces like Jex's race
Next time, you get to wear Jex clothes, is Issac response to Rory's question is he alright. Rory and Issac are running out of town.. They are observed by the Gunslinger, standing on the hills outside Mercy. The two are tracked by the cyborg, it's weapon begins to power up, and as it aquires the target.. a warning message appears on its eye screen

87 percent chance of harming the innocent. The Cyborg disengages,

Meanwhile back at the Ranch, sorry in the centre of Mercy. The Doctor walks up to the Preacher, he asks him.. if he can borrow his horse.. The Dr produces a badge and tells the preacher its official Marshall business.
Hes called Joshua.Its from the Bible.. It means the deliverer.. the preacher says proudly
No he isn't. I speak Horse He's called Susan, and he wants you to respect his life choices.. The Doctor gallops out of Mercy leaving the Preacher to shake his head.
We return to Rory and Issac who the Cyborg has fired upon.
When this is all done do you want us to take you home? Amy still in the town jail asks Jex
Thank you but I've already given everything I have to the Khaler, the other Doctor replies. My skills my energy all that was good in me.. says Jexbut here I could start afresh
I could remember myself and help people thats all I ever wanted to do end suffering
Here, Amy brings Jex a coat and puts it over his shoulders

The Doctor finds a cable, in the desert.. as 11 pulls the cable, back in Mercy Jex see's the light flicker...The Doctor follows the cable on horseback

where is the damage? The Doctor asks the Preachers horse and the audience
Gun slinger has got above Rory and the sheriff, -The Target located it gets ready to shoot

Doctor knocking on the egg/ship its hollow. The Doctor jumps up and down on the roof of the ship. Then the Timelord takes of his hat and, tries the sonic screw driver. sets off an alarm, a loud alarm. You can hear it all over the valley.. back in Mercy and above the rock Rory hides behind. Hearing the alarm the gunslinger breaks off its attack.

Thats the alarm, on my ship Jex observes to Amy... Jex wonders why he can hear it, Amy suggests the Doctor is trying to fix the ship

An angry Timelord climbs out of the Space ship, behind the Cyborg points his weapon at the Doctors head.
Don't shoot don't shoot...I know who you are and who Jex is too, what I don;t understand is why you just haven't walked into town and killed him..

Back in Mercy, Jex tells Amy.. Issac says he doesn't care about my past, but things may have been uncovered that even he might struggle to  forgive. So its best we beat a hasty retreat.

Its unlikely the gunslinger will shoot if I'm with you. As far as I can tell, he's programmed to take innocent lives only if absolutely necessary

Back in Mercy Jex, is explaining things to Issac. It was stupid of me, I realise that now, I just thought I put you into enough danger... The Doctor interrupts. ( One presumes he has returned Susan)

When the war ended we had the cyborgs decommissioned. But one of them must have had its circuity damaged in battle it went offline and began hunting down the team that created it. This is the explanation according to Jex Until just two of us where left, we fled and our ships crashed here. ( Rory looks at the Doctor, as if to say something. 11 is standing across the room, the Doctor is deathly silent)

The Doctor is outside squinting in the sunshine..By the bank, in the town square.. ( As Gary cooper would be)Its almost noon, high noon
The preacher leads his people in prayer The whore at the bar waits for the duel.
The Redhead in the jail stares at  the clock. Jex behind her in the cell

The whirr of the teleport alerts us to the Gunslinger The bell tolls twelve and the cyborg crosses the boundary
the Doctor and the borg face off, mano a mano, ready for the draw. Midday the Doctor, draws his sonic screw driver. Holds it aloft. (Strictly speaking does the Doctor delunge?)
The noise the nouse resonates across the town, shattering windows, scaring horses and raising hell. The Doctor runs away
The cyborg is disorientated and  shoots clock tower, missing his target.
Ready? Amy frees Jex from his cell. Ready? Rory and the Cowboy who are both sporting Khaler Tatoo's The Nurse and the cowboy
The cyborg ready to shoot, but the tatoo's are confusing his targetting system ERROR INVALID SENSOR MATCH
Jex scurries through town, the Cyborg thinks he has a lock on his quarry but the message flashes up
disengage its a trick
At the chapel, as the preacher prays the cyborg, walks past, a little girl drops a couple of bibles or hymn books. Alerting the Gunslingers
doors blown open, the cyborg enters the rooms, armed and ready, its weapon hot.

Jex making for his ship, in the desert.. He arrives at the egg/ship
The gun slinger, having left the chapel, takes aim at a fleeing Doctor and pursues 11, behind a house
While Jex, is aboard his ship at the control panel of the flight dex Self destruct overridden the computer informs us
Back in Mercy the Gunslinger deactivates his automatic targeting  switches to manual targetting,  The cyborg clanks towards 11 Where is he? 
Hes gone the Doctor tells the Cyborg Where answer me? 
Away from here, look up any minute now you will see the vapour trail of his ship

Which is worrying. Perhaps I am a snob, but if last weeks episode was a riff of Snakes on a plane, than what next are we going to see the Doctor do the Matrix? I did feel that

I was hoping the mention of the Master in the promo teasers, and the Tattoo on the face mean't that this would be a story related to the Time lords. I was hoping the tattoo was a reference to the corsair..

I wonder if this is deliberate, last week we had Dinosaurs, this week we had cowboys

The Doctor was running with a lot of American tropes. A western, the united states civil war, referred to as the war,, which British viewers might have not have got (1861-1865) Which puts the events of Mercy at 1870.
I wonder if the choice of accent for Jex was deliberate. Upper class English accent for someone who is portayed as shady, duplicitous and cruel. The Dr, also seems to feel the need to score points over the Black preacher, by telling him the name of his Horse is Susan.

We did see the Doctor lose it, in this episode. manhandling Jex. For all his bow tie, and Fez's for all his hiding from Neffertiti, this Doctor is the most physically aggressive of them all.

Did Rory have a lot to do this episode? Why was it Rory, the Nurse, who was so eager to hand over Jex?

The episode was well paced, I did appreciate that.
